We woke up to the news that the Huskies had crushed
Stanford, so the day started off fabulously! We packed up our stuff and put
it in day storage so that we could get a few more hours of sight-seeing and
shopping in before our train to Trieste, Italy. We took another boat ride that covered
the last stretch of the Grand Canal that we hadn’t seen yet and then finished
off our shopping with a stop to a stationary store on the Rialto Bridge that is
very special to us and found a great family leather goods store right next
door. Fully loaded with goods from Venice, we grabbed our luggage and headed to
the train station so that we would have time to eat lunch and see the last few
spots on our sight-seeing list. Instead, we unloaded our boat at the train station and
had time to buy a couple to-go sandwiches, go to the bathroom and load our
train minutes before it left. It was one last Venice lesson that everything
takes longer than you think-actually that just seems to be a lesson for any traveling
family.
Two hours later we had read, whined, done math, cried,
wrote in journals, argued, listened to music and covered the last stretch of Italy by
train. Cousin David picked us up at the train station and drove us to his house
in Ljubljana, Slovenia. David shared about how excited his three kids (5,
4, and 3) were to play with Reese and Kendall-which was great because our girls
were excited for some playtime with other kids as well!
Just a couple of American girls on a train in Italy.

Wow, I am enjoying your posts. Sounds like fun. I even recognize some of places you are visiting.
ReplyDeleteYou are almost halfway done. I remember the first time I went to Europe I got home sick for a while, but when I got home I wished I could go back for another week or two. So enjoy yourselves. It is a special time that you will remember forever. Grow where you are planted. GP
